It was against Sevilla at Camp Nou that Messi became the top goalscorer of all time in La Liga

Sevilla, along with Atletico, are his favourite victim - he has notched 27 goals against them in 29 games

Games between Barcelona and Sevilla, like the one at Camp Nou on Wednesday night, are special for Leo Messi. The Argentine star usually shines in them and many of the games have created unforgettable memories, like the victories in the Copa del Rey final and the Super Cup, as well as stratospheric records like the one he broke on November 22, 2014.

In that Barcelona-Sevilla Messi notched a hat-trick to help the team win 5-1, also overtaking Telmo Zarra’s all-time record as La Liga top scorer, which stood at 252 goals.

The Athletic Club forward netted those strikes between 1940 and 1955 and nearly six decades passed before anybody could crack it.

Messi did that day, reaching 253 goals in 289 games at the time. Now he has 337 in 373, with 25 in 25 league games this season, heading towards another Pichichi award.

Without doubt, the games against Sevilla have been very important when it comes to being the league’s top scorer of all-time. He has netted 21 goals against them in 20 leagues games. In all competitions it’s 27 goals in 29 games, in which Barcelona have 21 wins, four draws and four defeats.

He has scored two hat-tricks and six doubles against Sevilla. There is just one other team he has scored as many goals against—Atletico Madrid—but they took 34 games, seven more.
