In a survery conducted by 'France Football', the company in charge of the award, the Argentinian was voted as the worthy winner by the public

There has been a lot of talk about the Ballon d'Or 2018 this week. Although the winner hasn't been officially crowned yet, according to leaks, Luka Modric will take home the coverted award.

The current format, which has returned to its roots, still has an official list of 30 finalists. However they will simply name the winner. With Lionel Messi out of the running for the award, most publications haven't even mentioned the podium places. It doesn't feel right and the player who the majority of the public feel is the best player in the world won't claim an award which is, in theory, given to the best. It's been leaked that the final three are Modric, Griezmann and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It's scandalous this is happening when just a couple of weeks ago, in a survey 'France Football' themselves conducted online as to who deserved the award, Messi won. That survery was quickly deleted and brushed under a virtual carpet. It appears the result wasn't what they were expecting so they decided to remove it. Another indication that Messi won't be one of the top three for a trophy awarded to the best. Yes, that's right, the best..
