2022 Fifa World Cup is Ansu Fati's moment to shine
The Barça youngster's inclusion in the squad presents him with a great opportunity to get over the ghosts of the past.
Luis Enrique's 2022 World Cup squad has been, more or less, as expected. Some absences, such as those of Ramos, Borja Iglesias and Canales, have caused a lot of talk in the media. But, above all, one name has stood out among the selected players: Ansu Fati.
The young Barça number 10 who rose to the centre stage at just 16 years of age, has endured an injury ordeal in recent years. An injury to the inner meniscus of his left knee in November 2020, which required surgery, was the start of a nightmare for Ansu.
Constant relapses and other injuries did not help the player either physically or, above all, mentally.
This season was shaping up to be different. After a long recovery from his last injury, it was expected that the striker would gradually start to get more minutes and end up establishing himself in the azulgrana eleven.
Care has been taken to avoid risks for fear of a possible relapse. Three months later, the player's doctors claim that he has fully recovered.
Even so, Ansu has not been able to reach his peak yet, which could be attributed to the lack of game time. There have been glimpses of his world-class ability, but consistency has been lacking.
The increased competition upfront this season has been a motivation and also a handicap. The World Cup, therefore, is an opportunity that fits him like a glove.
After being dropped in the last international break, a lot of doubts were looming. They have now been crushed and he will have his chance. The selection emphasises Luis's confidence in him should also be a tremendous boost to him.
And what better opportunity to prove that he is once again one of the best young players in the world than in this immense football showcase? His potential has never been in doubt, it is time now to regain his form.
