The Argentine forward lifted the Golden Ball in Paris on Monday night for the SEVENTH time

The predictions were right. Lionel Messi has won his seventh Ballon d’Or award, beating Robert Lewandowski to the trophy. He has won more than any other player in history. Only Cristiano Ronaldo is close with five trophies.

The Argentine, who won the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2019 trophies, has added this year’s, the first given since Covid-19 kicked off.

He saw off Lewandowski and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as his serious rivals for the golden ball.

Messi had a fine 2021, winning the Copa America for the first time with Argentina. The first time he has won the trophy or any with his national team. He also won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona and scored 38 goals and got 14 assists in the 2020-21 season with his club. He moved to Paris in the summer on a free transfer.
