Los goles y las mejores ocasiones del Atlético Madrid - FC Barcelona (1-1) / | LALIGA

260,000 watched the game on GOL, according to the channel

The record was held by the same game last season: 147.000

Women's football is generating more and more interest all the time and proof of that is in the television figures, notably from Sunday's game between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Around 247,000 people tuned in to watch the La Liga game live on GOL, according to data released by the channel. It's a new high for the women's game in Spain, overtaking the 147,000 people that tuned in to watch the same game last season.

On that occasion the audience share was higher -- 2.6 percent as opposed to 2 percent on Sunday -- but it's an excellent figure and demonstrates the continued growth of the game.

Completing the podium of the highest viewing figures for games in women's football in the country is last season's Catalan derby between Barça and Espanyol, which saw 146,000 people tune in.

The top of the table clash between Barça and reigning champions Atletico at the weekend ended 1-1.
