Elimination from the Europa League playoffs has left Barça severely depleted at the best time of the season. The second European knockout of the season has once again exposed Barça's weaknesses.
So much so that Barça have been eliminated four times in European competition in just one year and 77 days. An alarming statistic that calls into question the performance of the Blaugrana in Europe.
Barcelona will enter the month of March eliminated from all European competitions, something that has not happened for 24 years, when in the 1998-99 season they were eliminated in the month of December.
The huge difference in the Barça defence between La Liga and European competitions is the main reason for the debacle. In league competition, they have 17 clean sheets in 22 games.
A far cry from the numbers in Europe; no clean sheets in eight games between the Champions League and Europa League.
