The German club are eyeing the goalkeeper as a possible replacement for Neuer

Not Juventus, not Paris Saint-Germain, nor Chelsea. Bayern Munich are the main obstacle Barcelona face when renewing Marc ter Stegen's contract.

The Bavarian club are keen to bring Ter Stegen in next summer, 2021, as Manuel Neuer's replacement. For now, talks between Bayern and Neuer over a new deal have stalled.

Bayern and Neuer at odds over the length of the contract on offer, with the German club adhering to a policy that prevents them from offering long-term deals to players over the age of 30.

Neuer's deal runs until 2021 and they have only offered him an additional year, until 2022.

The German champions feel the best possible replacement would be Barça's Ter Stegen. He will be Neuer's replacement in the German national team and he's their top target, although Ter Stegen's preference is to stay at Barça.

Bayern's plan passes through getting Ter Stegen to hold off on renewing his contract with Barça, which runs until 2022. Next summer, he would have just 12 months left on his deal.

Talks are ongoing with Barça over a new deal. There is not an agreement yet because the goalkeeper wants almost double what the club are offering. Ter Stegen is happy in Barcelona but wants to earn in relation to his importance in the team. He knows how much other big goalkeepers earn and the difference with his salary is huge.

Barça recognise his petition is fair but the club's finances are complicated at the moment.
