The Real Madrid coach was delighted for his players after the Clasico win

Zinedine Zidane had his smile back on Saturday after Real Madrid bounced back from back-to-back defeats to beat Barcelona 3-1 at Camp Nou.

"We played well against a side that played really open," Zidane said. "I'm delighted for the players, especially after what was said in recent days about the team. The win arrived and we finished with a great goal from Luka Modric and everyone united as a group."

Federico Valverde opened the scoring for Madrid early on but Ansu Fati cancelled out his goal in the eighth minute.

The game then swung with half an hour to go when Sergio Ramos scored from the penalty spot after Clement Lenglet was deemed to have fouled him. Modric added the third late on.

On the penalty, Zidane said: "The referee went to look at the screen and decided it was penalty. I don't speak about the referees, who have a difficult job.

"So I won't talk about them today. Regardless of what happened, I think we deserved to win the game today. I can only say I am proud of the team."

Asked if it was a strike back against the criticism, the Frenchman added: "We're not here to shut mouths. We're here to believe in what we're doing and to stick together. We won as a team and I am proud."
