Dani Olmo rejects new contract offer from Dinamo Zagreb

The Croatian club are trying to hang on to theirr star player

Dinamo Zagreb are using all their resources to try and keep hold of Dani Olmo. After his good performances at the U21 European Championships this summer, he's returned to his club and has starred in all three appearances he's made to date.

The Croatian club are aware that the only way to keep hold of him is to make a huge financial offer. They have done that, making him an offer to become the best-paid player at the club. And not just in the current squad, but in the history of the club, earning more than stars like Modric and Mandzukic did.

But Dinamo's movements have not gone down well with the player's entourage.  They see the reality. And the reality is that in the last three years, Olmo has been the best player on the team, but he's not among the top five earners at the club. And they don't understand why, if he's not among the top earners, the club are asking so much for him: what started out at 25 million euros has now become 40 million, which is too much for many teams.

For that reason, Olmo's agents has told Dinamo Zagreb that they will not accept their renewal offer.

It remains to be seen what step the club will take now. Meanwhile, Dani's behaviour continues to be exemplary, not just on the pitch, where he's the best player, but off it, too.

However, his hopes of moving to England this summer are now over. Manchester United and Tottenham had been linked but the Premier League transfer window shut on Thursday. There are still options in Germany (Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen) and Italy (Roma).
