Luis Suarez continues to break goal scoring records with Uruguay

The Barça man's goal didn't lead to a win, but it did help him match Crespo's record

Luis Suarez starred in Tuesday's game between Uruguay and Colombia in Barranquilla, which took place in the 10th round of fixtures in the South American section of qualifying for the Russia World Cup in 2018.

The Blaugrana striker was one of the goal scorers in the match, which ended 2-2. Despite his goal not serving to help his nation achieve three points, Uruguay maintained their place at the top of the standings.

Beyond the game itself, Suarez's legend grew with the goal. His second half strike was his 19th in World Cup qualifying and drew him level with Hernan Crespo, now retired, as the player with the most goals in the history of the South American qualifiers.

He moved above Chilean Marcelo Salas (18) and had already moved ahead of another Chilean, the former Real Madrid forward Ivan Zamorano (17).

In total, Suarez now has 47 goals for his national team, making him the top scorer in Uruguay history, ahead of Edinson Cavani (34) and Diego Forlan (36).
