Lionel Scaloni reveals the Leo Messi chat which changed Argentina's history
He spoke to the PSG star after Argentina secured qualification for the tournament
Triumphant Argentine boss Lionel Scaloni wore the country’s shirt at his press conference and wanted to reveal a story that was key to winning the Qatar 2022 World Cup. A chat with Leo Messi which changed everything.
Scaloni explained that "with Messi I have a very good anecdote, after Brazil, in San Juan, when we qualified for the World Cup, I spoke with him before he went to Paris. We transmitted something very strong and (recognised) the disappointment could also be very strong. He told me: it doesn't matter, we continue. Surely it will go well and, if not, it's okay to try."
The coach of the Albiceleste added that this conversation "gave me a lot of encouragement. I felt anxiety and with that talk I felt relieved. I told him how I felt. With his response I saw that something was being done well. It is a story that I want everyone to know because it’s great.”
Scaloni was visibly moved and ended his appearance by dedicating the title to "his old folks” and hopes that "they feel proud of the son they have". He also spoke about the rest of his family: "They have suffered a lot and I am very grateful."
