The Belgium midfielder speculated he only got it because of his name

Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has no idea why he was named MVP after his country kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Canada.

Canada had the better of the game and were unlucky to lose, with De Bruyne admitting Belgium were not at their best and his surprise at being given the award.

"We didn't play well enough as a team," the Manchester City star said, "I do not know why I won man of the match, maybe because of my name

"Credit to Canada. We could not get through their press, we did not play a good game today, me included, but we found a way to win."
