Wolfsburg see off Arsenal, set up UWCL final clash with Barca

| sport

The German side went down at Camp Nou last season in the semi-finals

Arsenal and Wolfsburg played out an entertaining clash, full of script changes in which, in the end, German skill prevailed.

Tommy Stroot's side won 3-2 in extra time with a goal from Pauline Bremer in the 118th minute to avoid a penalty shoot-out. On June 3rd, in Eindhoven, they will contest their sixth Champions League final, in this case the first against Barça. They will be looking for their third Champions League triumph.

The match had the aroma of a big day. So the Emirates responded, full, with 60,063 spectators - but despite their efforts they could not take the Gunners to the final. They were looking to return to the final 16 years later, but will have to keep waiting in north London.

The first leg was tied at 2-2, so Wolfsburg progressed 5-4 on aggregate.

After Stina Blackstenius sent Arsenal ahead, Jill Roord and Alexandra Popp turned the game on its head.

Jen Beattie levelled for Arsenal to take the game to extra-time, and penalties seemed round the corner.

However Lotte Wubben-Moy made a grievous error to give the ball away and Bremer struck the winner.
