The player, who is wanted by Ronald Koeman at Barça, is now expected to join the Premier League

There's yet more bad news for FC Barcelona as it appears they are going to miss out on one of their transfer targets this window. Donny van de Beek was someone Ronald Koeman specifically asked for but he's now set to sign for Manchester United.

The player has reportedly told his teammates at Ajax about his impending move to Manchester. Van de Beek is expected to travel to England next week to sign his contract with the Red Devils. Ajax refused to budge from their €55m asking price which meant Barça needed to finalise sales before they could contemplate adding a new player to the squad. However, United have stolen a march and quickly wrapped up a deal.

Van de Beek wanted to leave Ajax last summer but was asked to postpone those plans until the following summer window as they'd already lost de ligt and de Jong. The 23-year-old hasn't played in his club's friendlies against Frankfurt or Union Berlín recently.

It's a blow for Barca - and more so Koeman - as they pay for not having their financial situation in order. The main target remains Lautaro Martinez but losing van de Beek is further proof Barça must act quicker - and better- in the transfer market.
