Despite Chelsea and Barça being in advanced talks for the Brazilian, Spurs are ready to make a new offer

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to join the battle to sign Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian international, currently on loan at Bayern Munich, has been offered to a host of clubs for next season. Chelsea are frontrunners to land his signature but they could face competition from their London neighbours Spurs.

Last summer Tottenham made an offer to bring Coutinho in but he chose Bayern instead. Now, according to the 'Daily Mirror', Jose Mourinho has given the green light to a loan move. The problem, as was the case last summer, is whether there's an obligatory purchase option included or not.

Chelsea haven't signed off on the deal for this very reason. Frank Lampard is confident he could get the best out of Coutinho but the powers that be at Stamford Bridge want an option to buy, not an obligation to buy. If Spurs agree to a permanent deal then they would be in pole position to add the Brazilian to their squad.

The financial impact of COVID-19 could also scupper any plans Barça had of cashing in on Coutinho. Spurs have already asked for government aid to help pay their staff.
