Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller labelled Atletico Madrid the ‘thugs of Europe’ during his side’s 4-0 win over the Rojiblancos in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Muller was booked for fouling English right back Kieran Tripper and mouthed off to the referee.
“Are you kidding me? We are playing against the thugs of Europe and you give me yellow for that?” complained Muller, with his words picked up in the empty stadium.
Referee Michael Oliver booked four Atletico players and two Bayern players during the clash at the Allianz Arena.
“It can be said that we have been very physical, especially against this team that plays the ball very aggressive, and it was very important to show our face and show our quality,” said Bayern coach Hansi Flick.
