The Brazilian forward has been criticised for his performance at Anfield

The reviews are in an Neymar will not enjoy reading them. The French press were not impressed with his display on Tuesday as Paris Saint-Germain lost their opening Champions League game to Liverpool 3-2.

Newspaper Le Parisien catalogue his performance as a "simple stream of air" and give him a match rating of three out of 10.

"He went down a lot, then disappeared until the only moment of the game when he did anything, setting up [Kylian] Mbappe's goal," the comment read.

It continued: "One year after his arrival in Paris, the most expensive player on the planet has still not pulled his weight in a big Champions League game. Neymar symbolised the feeling of impotence which has accompanied the team for so long."

DISTANT ON THE PITCH

DISTANT ON THE PITCHFor the French paper, his inability to breakdown the Liverpool defence is not fitting of a player with his clout. "Anaesthetic in terms of his pressing, the Brazilian wandered around the Anfield pitch like a suffering soul."

Meanwhile, television commentator Christophe Dugarry rated Neymar's showing as "inadmissible, an irritatant on the eyes. All I can only say is that he has mocked the world."
