They feel the length of the santion is too harsh

Lionel Messi was banned for three months and fined following his comments about possible Conmebol inside Conmebol after he was sent off in Argentina's win over Chile at the Copa America in the summer.

However, according to the newspaper Ole in Argentina, the Argentine Football Association [AFA] will appeal the length of the Barcelona star's sanction.

"[The AFA] are working on an appeal, although that doesn't guarantee that the ban will be reduced," the outlet explained. "The Conmebol appeals committee will have to evaluate it. There's not a lot of optimism."

Messi criticised the officiating and members of CONMEBOL following Argentina's semifinal loss to Brazil and after the third-place match against Chile but later apologised.

The Barça forward made his first appearance of the season for his club against Borrusia Dortmund as a substitute in the Champions League on Tuesday. He could start on Saturday against Granada.
