Odegaard asks Real Madrid to let him leave due to lack of minutes

Coach Zinedine Zidane has hardly used the midfielder despite recalling him from loan

If anything is characterising Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid side this season it is a lack of changes to his preferred XI.

The French coach has been reluctant to rotate. For example, in attack, he never looks beyond Karim Benzema, which forced Luka Jovic to leave on loan in search of minutes -- he returned to his old club Frankfurt last week, scoring two goals on his debut at the weekend.

Martin Odegaard is in a similar position to Jovic and, according to the journalist Josep Pedrerol, has asked the club to let him leave on loan due to the lack of minutes he's getting under Zidane.

"Many Madrid fans back Zidane because he has done great things," Pedrerol said. "But they were also excited to see young players at the club and Zidane's taking that excitement away."

Odegaard impressed on loan at Real Sociedad last season so much that Madrid cut short his two-year loan in San Sebastian, recalling him in the summer.

Therefore, it's hard to work out why Zidane has been so harsh on him when it comes to giving him regular playing time.
