The European Super League project continues to move forward despite the opposition against it. With FC Barcelona and Real Madrid as the angular pieces of the plan (as well as Juventus), is waiting for a favourable result in a court case (expected in 2023, per the latest information) regarding whether UEFA have a monopoly on the game.

The company designated with developing the Super League competition has now appointed a new CEO. Bernd Reichart, 48, is the man brought in by A22 Sports Management. Reichart is the former CEO of media company RTL Deutschland until now.

"His initial focus will be to initiate an active and extended dialogue with a comprehensive group of football stakeholders including clubs, players, coaches, fans, media and policy makers," a statement said.

"The aim is to facilitate the development of a sustainable sporting model for European club competitions that reflects the long-term and mutual best interests of fans and the broader football community."

LAPORTA INSISTS

Recently, Barça president Joan Laporta has insisted that the Super League is a necessity for clubs in European football to move forward.

"Right now it is the only solution that we see to defend the interests of the clubs, ours and every club," he said.
