It took a lot of effort. Too much. But they say all's well that ends well. And it did end well. Sergi Palencia had only one idea in his head - to renew his deal with Barcelona. He did everything necessary. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he received the club's first offer, which was not good. He stayed open to negotiations and in the end there was an agreement on both sides.
Palencia has agreed a deal until 2020. He will continue as captain of the B team but hopes to arrive at Camp Nou. Without hurry, but without pauses. Now there is no Luis Enrique around, he believes it's easier to do so.
There have been months of negotiations and times hwere it looked like everything was lost. But on Thursday afternoon Palencia penned his new deal, with president Josep Maria Bartomeu present. His release clause was 12m euros but rises to 25m and if he joins the first team, 50m.
