Spain reach the World Cup after narrow 1-0 win over Sweden

The goal was scored by Alvaro Morata and Gavi played very well

Alvaro Morata grabbed a goal late on to send Spain definitively into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The forward struck with four minutes to go to kill the visitors’ hopes of finishing top of the group in Seville.

Dani Olmo had hit the bar and Morata controlled the rebound and lofted it home past the fallen Roben Olsen.

Spain have reached 12 World Cups running, while Sweden will be in the March play-offs and can still qualify despite finishing second in Group B.

Gavi played extremely well for Luis Enrique’s side in a game of few clear chances.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic came on for Sweden and was lucky not to be punished for smashing into Cesar Azpilicueta.
