Luis Enrique's message to Jordi Alba after Spain recall
The coach and Alba know each other well from their Barcelona times
Luis Enrique had not called up Jordi Alba since returning as Spain coach, until now. The Barcelona left-back’s last inclusion in a Spain squad was September 2019, with Robert Moreno in charge.
However his fine performances with Ronald Koeman’s Barca have brought Alba back into Lucho’s thinking in 2021.
Their conflict seems to have been ‘parked’ ahead of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Greece, Georgia and Kosovo.
Defensively Alba still has some problems but going forward he’s in fine fettle, scoring five goals and giving 11 assists this season.
“Knowing someone has many positive things and sometimes not so positive. In my case I think it’s positive I know Jordi so well and he knows me so well too. He knows my weaknesses and right now there aren’t any.
“I’m happy that he is back. Nobody doubts Jordi’s level, he’s more than capable of matching the requirements demanded of him, and his team-mates too.”
