The coach and Barca's captain both stood up for the young central defender

Neither Luis Enrique or Sergio Busquets agreed with the criticism of Eric Garcia after Spain’s defeat by Sweden on Thursday. The 20 year old defender has become a regular for his coach.

“I don’t agree with some criticism, he’s started the season brilliantly,” said Lucho. “He didn’t play much last season, he’s in perfect shape. It’s true that we suffered in transitions but Laporte suffered too. I’m delighted with his performance.”

Eric Garcia and Aymeric Laporte have started the national team’s most recent games together.

Busquets, meanwhile, Spain’s captain, thought similarly. “When you lose, they always look to give blame. I know much about that. Eric had a great game on his debut for Barca and in the second one too, even though he was sent off. And in this game he had great commitment because of what happened to him. We’re delighted to have him here and at the club.”
