The Barça centre-back will be able to play in Catalonia with La Roja in front of friends and family

Eric Garcia spoke to SPORT while with the Spanish national team at Las Rozas. Spain are preparing for friendlies against Albania and Iceland.

Spain play in Barcelona for the first time in 18 years, how are you approaching the game against Albania?

It will be a very special game. After 18 years the national team are back and I’m excited for my family and friends, who will be at the game and we’ll celebrate this party.

Do you expect a good atmosphere with the desire to support La Roja?

For sure, I hope the stadium can be filled after so long, we need the fans more than ever.

Does Luis Enrique’s national team pull people back in, above all after the Nations League games against Italy and France?

We enjoy playing with the coach’s plan a lot, with what he transmits. The players, we know each other well, and there’s a special environment.

Are you thinking about the World Cup?

First, we have these friendlies against Albania and Iceland, then the games in the Nations League in June and the World Cup is after that. We want to be at the top level competing with the team.

You haven’t thought about what it would be like to win in Qatar?

Anyone would like to go there but I am not thinking about winning it. I’m focused on the day to day, first on the Albania game. When we get to the World Cup, and if I’m called up, we’ll talk. We have to take advantage of all the international matches, which are not so many, to be able to be on the final list.
