The World Cup 2022 group stage draw pitted La Roja against the Germans

Lucho and Spain knew they could get a tough team from pot two and they got Germany. They’d probably have preferred not to face the 2014 World Cup winners, who have one of the best squads in world football.

However Spain did recently hammer Germany 6-0, the last clash between the sides, in November 2020 at La Cartuja in Seville. Lucho was in charge and Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick.

Morata, Rodri and Mikel Oyarzabal also were on the scoresheet. All of those will be at the World Cup apart from perhaps the latter, who is battling injury against the clock.

Hansi Flick is leading a new German project that mixes lots of youngsters like Adeyemi, Musiala, Gnabry, Havertz, Werner and Goretzka with older faces like Neuer and Thomas Muller.

Spain against Germany is arguably the biggest game of the group stage on paper and will take place on November 27. Germany have not beaten Spain in an official game since 1988 at the Euros.
