Gerard Moreno has been wearing the number 9 shirt for Spain at EURO 2020. This is a number that entails huge responsibility and pressure, but the Catalan striker wears it with excitement and a desire to do something great. Moreno spoke to SPORT at the national team's base at Las Rozas. This is a preview of the interview that will be available in full, online and in print, this Monday.

Gerard is a player that always puts the group first, but when asked about Pedri he couldn't hide his excitement. "It's incredible what he's doing at 18 years old. Put yourself in his shoes at that age and all you can do is smile. He does everything and takes it all in his stride. He wants to take on the world, as he should do at his age".

On the eternal debate about the number 9 shirt, the Villarreal striker stated that "there has always been a debate, and there will always be a debate. The important thing is that we focus on ourselves and support each other to the death". On a personal level, Gerard Moreno admitted that he really wants to get his name on the score sheet in EURO 2020. "I'm the first one to want the ball to go in", he said, before adding that "it's great that so many players are chipping in with goals".

Gerard spoke in depth about the 'Morata case', the Italian national team, Luis Enrique's playing philosophy and penalties, and looks back fondly at his time at Espanyol. You can read about these thoughts in this special interview, with the semi-final against Italy just around the corner.
