The player has broken an 85 year old record and made a big new step in his career

Gavi starts for Spain against Italy, the youngest player to ever play for La Roja. A giant new step in his career.

Pablo Paez Gavira, known by the football world as Gavi, turned 17 on August 5. He debuts at 17 years, 62 days. That breaks a record which had been held since 1936, 85 years ago.

Angel Zubieta, of Athletic Bilbao, had the record. Debuting at 17 years and 284 days against the old Czechoslovakia. Gavi beats him by 222 days, so it’s hard to see anyone else going ahead of him in the coming years.

Ansu, however, did debut for Barcelona at 16 years, nine months and 25 days, while Gavi did so after turning 17.
