Ansu Fati returns to Spain squad a year and a half later

The Spanish striker is back in Luis Enrique's plans after so long out injured

Ansu Fati is the big name back in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the Nations League matches that La Roja play in June. They face Portugal in Seville on June 2, then the Czech Republic in Prague on June 5 and in Malaga on June 12 and Switzerland in Geneva on June 9.

Ansu Fati has not played for his national team for a year and a half, because of injury.

He last appeared in October 2020, against Ukraine. Before that he had played in four games, scoring the goal that made him the youngest player ever to score for Spain, at 17 years and 311 days.

His bad knee injury in November 2020 against Real Betis has caused him to miss out ever since. Luis Enrique has kept a keen eye on him. He was invited to drop in on a training session for Euro 2021 just to keep him engaged and in touch with his national team-mates.

In reality, Ansu was supposed to return with the Spain national team in November 2021. He was called up to face Greece and Sweden in World Cup qualifiers, but he got hurt the Saturday before in Vigo against Celta.

He will link up with the Spain squad on Monday May 30 at Las Rozas.
