Pique weighs up return to football with second division side Andorra

The ex-Barça defender is president of Andorra and reportedly could sign as a player

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique retired from football in November but he did not close the door on returning to the club one day, presumably in the offices.

"I have decided that it is the moment to close this cycle," he said. "I have always said that after Barça there would be no other team and that is how it will be."

That was his phrase in his farewell video. Even so, in his new project, the Kings League, Pique has not closed the door on the possibility of playing in one of the 12 teams that make up the league.

Now, according to information from Relevo, Pique could also be considering playing again for 'his' team, Andorra, currently in LaLiga Smartbank, the Spanish Second Division, although it seems very complicated financially.

The main reason would be the economic control of LaLiga, since his salary at Barça this year would be around €20 million and Andorra could not pay him the minimum salary of the second division.

His salary would have to go through a LaLiga Evaluation Committee that would have to decide how much the signing of a player with his characteristics is valued at.

It is something that has already happened in similar cases, in which the players accepted a drastic reduction to their salaries, but it was not accepted by the league.

In addition, Andorra has a salary cap of €6.529m, so it would be difficult to accept a salary like Piqué's. According to the information, the only two ways would be with a capital increase and some new income in the form of sponsorship, although it would be very complicated.

Currently, Piqué is technically serving a four-game ban that he received after being sent off in his final game as a professional, as a substitute, against Osasuna at El Sadar.

For now, Piqué is still registered with Barça and has already completed the first of the four games.
