Schalke 2-3 Man City: Sane and Sterling save Pep in Germany
Guardiola's men won the game with 10 men after Nicolas Otamendi had been sent off
With 10 men Manchester City made a stunning comeback to beat Schalke in Germany on Wednesday.
After Sergio Aguero sent the visitors ahead, capitalising on a dreadful defensive error, Nabil Bentaleb hit two penalties for Schalke to send them in ahead.
The first came when Otamendi handball it, the second for a foul by Fernandinho on Salif Sane.
Shortly after half-time Otamendi was given his matching orders for a foul on Guido Burgstaller which means he will miss the second leg, along with Fernandinho.
Pep Guardiola sent on Leroy Sane to change the game against his old club and the German winger scored a sensational free-kick to level the scores with five minutes remaining.
Then Raheem Sterling grabbed a late winner when he reached Ederson’s long kick and slotted in.
"I was a little bit upset for Schalke, especially for the fans, the atmosphere was amazing, said Leroy Sane, who played for the German side for two years before joining City.
"In the end we did it, we scored three goals away, that’s the most important thing, to score goals away.
"I think you can see that we never give up, we always want to keep going, keep fighting, we know the quality we have in the team. I don’t think this was our best game, but we scored our goals."
