Liverpool star Mohamad Salah, whose World Cup has been blighted by the injury he picked up in the Champions League final, opened the scoring for Egypt.

Essam El-Hadary -- the Egypt goalkeeper who become the oldest player to play in the World Cup at 45 after being left on the bench for the first two games -- then saved a penalty from Fahad Al-Muwallad in the 41st minute.

However, four minutes later, Saudi Arabia were awarded another penalty, which was scored by Salman Al-Faraj.

It looked like the game would finish all square but there was to be a late twist, with Saudi Arabia grabbing the win in stoppage time thanks to Salem Al-Dawsari's goal.

Both teams had lost their first two games, though, against Russia and Uruguay, so knew they were out no matter the result in this match.

But there was still the chance to end the World Cup on a high and Saudi Arabia did just that as they return home on the back of a win.
