It's been a rough ride for Luis Rubiales ever since he took over the role as president of the RFEF. In a little over a year, he's already seen four different coaches sit in Spain's dugout.

When he started Julen Lopetegui was the head coach after overseeing Spain's impressive qualification for the World Cup in Russia. However after Real Madrid announced that Lopetegui would be their new coach following the tournament, before the opening match had taken place, Rubiales decided to remove the coach from his role and instead replace him with Fernando Hierro.

Hierro's appointment didn't go to plan as Spain barely escaped the group stages before losing to Russia on penalties in the Round of 16. Following the conclusion of the World Cup, Rubiales once again searched for a new man to lead Spain and chose Luis Enrique. The coach, who spent a year out of the game following his time with Barça, was a more recognised name.

However personal issues off the pitch have forced Luis Enrique to abandon his role much sooner than he, Rubiales or anyone else could've expected. He was under contract until 2020 but his last match in charge came in March 2019. Robert Moreno oversaw the qualifiers in Luis Enrique's absence and will now continue that work for another year at least.
