The Bayern striker believes winning the treble and finishing as the top scorer in the Bundesliga and Champions League mean the award belonged to him

Bayern Munich's star man, Robert Lewandowski, believes he was the clear favourite to win the Ballon d'Or this year despite 'France Football' postponing the award until 2021.

In an interview with 'Sportowe Fakty', the 32-year-old striker responded: "Me" when asked who deserved to win the Ballon d'Or 2020.

'France Football' decided back in July they wouldn't hold the award this year due to the coronavirus but it's hard to argue that anyone has had a better season than Lewandowski.

"We won everything available at Bayern. We won every competition (Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League) and I was the top scorer in each competition," boasts Lewandowski. "I believe any player who achieves that should win the Ballon d'Or."

There's still FIFA's 'The Best' award up for grabs but, for now, the Polish international is just enjoying his first Champions League title. "Winning the Champions League is the dream of every player but I believed I would always win one."

Lewandowski had previously finished runners-up with Borussia Dortmund and had reached the semi-finals on three occasions with Bayern. "I've been close a few times but something was missing, something was causing us to peak too soon. Now that we've won there's a childish excitement, something natural and spontaneous."
