PSG crushed Madrid in Paris, without Neymar or Mbappe on the pitch, as things go from bad to worse for Zidane

PSG inflicted the heaviest defeat of Zinedine Zidane's managerial career in the Champions League last night. The coach has lost five out of the 34 matches he's overseen but it was a night to forget in Paris. Real Madrid lost by a three-goal margin for the first time since the 24th April 2013 (versus Borussia Dortmund).

On that night, Robert Lewandowski scored four goals in the first leg of the 2012/30 Champions League semi-finals (4-1). That was the last final the scoreline was so heavily against the Spaniards when they were on their travels, but they've suffered heavy defeats at home since then. They lost 3-0 to CSKA at the Santiago Bernabeu under Santiago Solari and 4-1 to Ajax in Madrid.

It's been far from an easy start to Zidane's second reign in charge. He was given a pass last season as the squad struggled to match their high standards but Europe was always his saving grace. Before last night, Zidane's heaviest defeat in Europe was 2-0 against Wolfsburg, a 2-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid, a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur and a home defeat (1-3) against Juventus.
