Worst news confirmed for Marco Asensio: He's out for 6-9 months

Real Madrid have released a statement which confirms initial fears and rules Asensio out for the majority, if not all, of the 2019/20 season

"After test carried out on our player Marco Asensio by the Real Madrid Medical Services he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee. The player will be surgically operated on in the next few days.” That is Real Madrid's official medical report on the injury Asensio suffered in the friendly match against Arsenal this morning.

The typical period of rehabilitation is between six and nine months which all but confirms Asensio won't return this season. It's a loss which hurts a little more now that Dani Ceballos is also set to leave this week.

Asensio had begun preseason well as he looked to prove his quality after a disappointing campaign last time out. Now he'll have to focus on getting ready for the 2020/21 season instead.
