The Portuguese has maintained his numbers in Italy and Madrid have missed out big time

It’s an exercise in football fiction, but Real Madrid fans have been wondering what would have happened if Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t leave. The forward’s 50 goals a season have not been covered for by their remaining strikers. Where would Madrid be if they had kept Ronaldo?

His hat-trick against Atletico saw Juve reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. He has 24  goals and 12 assists in 36 games so far.

Juve lead Serie A comfortably, with Ronaldo’s goals bringing them 23 of their 75 points.

Madrid, third in La Liga, are without hope of the title, 12 points behind Barca. Even with Ronaldo last season they were though. However they have 18 less goals and 3 points less than at the same stage of the season.

In La Liga, with his 19 Serie A goals, he would be second top scorer in La Liga ahead of Luis Suarez - Madrid’s best striker has 13, in Karim Benzema.

Ronaldo would have had a more decisive impact in the Champions League. He has four goals in eight games and Juve are in the quarter-finals thanks to him.

Madrid, meanwhile, were turfed out by Ajax in the last 16, scoring seven less goals than they did by the same stage last season.

  • In Serie A 2018/19, his 19 goals have brought 23 of 75 points for Juve.
  • In La Liga 2017/18, his 16 goals brought 8 of 51 points for Madrid.
