Los Blancos ought to have had a penalty but the ball had gone out

Getafe were saved an obvious penalty by VAR during their match against Real Madrid.

Vinicius Junior was hacked down in the box by Luis Milla and referee Mateu Lahoz pointed to the penalty spot. It was a clear foul and Getafe could have no complaint.

And yet, there ended up being no penalty taken.

What happened was that the Brazilian had dribbled the ball off the pitch before he got into the area. VAR looked at the action again and saw the whole ball was out of play, so the penalty was cancelled.

Later Rodrygo scored with a chip over David Soria but he was clearly offside and it too was cancelled.
