The English paper say United are keen on Real Madrid's Uruguayan midfielder

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid and Uruguay midfielder Fed Valverde, according to The Sun.

Valverde, 22, had a breakthrough season at Madrid last year but has been in and out of the team under Zinedine Zidane in recent months.

The report in the British tabloid claims United would be willing to include France international Paul Pogba in a deal for Valverde.

Zidane has long wanted his compatriot at the Bernabeu but Florentino Perez has never been prepared to pay what it would cost to sign him.

Pogba has a deal at Old Trafford until 2022 but his price would be significantly reduced if Madrid were able to include Valverde in the deal.

However, Valverde is well thought of in the Spanish capital. He's a young player with a big future. He has a contract until 2025 and a 500 million euros release clause.

Therefore, the use of Pogba could be the only way to tempt Madrid into letting the former Peñarol midfielder leave the club.

There's a growing Uruguayan contingent at Old Trafford. Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri both joined the Premier League side earlier this month.
