The Danish international will have just six months to run on his existing deal in January, meaning Spurs might need to cash in on him mid season

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is still hopeful of ending up at Real Madrid. According to 'The Sun', the player's agent will fly out to Spain this weekend to open talks with the Spanish giants.

Eriksen asked to leave in the summer after feeling he had outgrown the project in North London, this despite his side reaching the Champions League final. Zinedine Zidane had the option to bring the Danish international in but instead preferred to wait until the last minute to sign his first choice midfielder, Paul Pogba, instead.

Mauricio Pochettino has used Eriksen in the opening set of matches but the player's decision to leave hasn't changed. His current deal runs out next summer and would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any side in Europe from January.

Spurs might be tempted to cash in this January as Madrid desperately look to remodel their squad to challenge on all fronts.
