The Argentinian coach has made Courtois his number one, a decision which clearly seems to have been done to win over Florentino Perez

Ever since Santiago Solari was placed in charge of Real Madrid's first team it's been a nightmare for Keylor Navas. In the Argentinian coach's strategy to earn the job full-time, he's opted to use Thibaut Courtois as his number one goalkeeper. This is because Florentino Perez is one the who actually made the deal to sign the Belgian international.

Under Julen Lopetegui the two keepers were rotating almost every week. And while it's true Courtois was beginning to play a little more often, Julen was keen for both to get regular minutes. Now, according to 'El Confidencial', that policy is over. Courtois is the undisputed first choice at Real Madrid.

Firstly, Solari believes Courtois' characteristics suit the team better than Navas, feeling the Belgian is a more well rounded stopper.

In saying that, a lot of the first team squad don't agree and believe Keyler deserves more playing time for what he's achieved at the club over the last few years.

Solari also thinks Courtois is stronger mentally than Navas. This despite the fact the Costa Rican international has played at a high level for some time now and the majority of that with speculation surrounding his future.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Solari knows that Courtois is a player Florentino personally worked on bringing to the club. By playing one of the president's players, he hopes to increase his chances of landing the role on a permanent basis.
