Cristiano Ronaldo has told his family and friends why he's upset

It's not just to do with money and a contract renewal which hasn't arrived

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has explained to his family and friends the reason for his sadness and unease. According to the newpaper Record, he is sad but not just because of money and the fact Los Blancos chieff Florentino Perez has not improved his contract. There also other, more personal and less materialistic reasons.

Ronaldo's made it clear that it's not a question of money. The forward, who scored a double against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, is sad. He did not celebrate the first goal and could not celebrate the second after taking a boot to the head, which drew blood. It's not usual for him not to celebrate and proves that he's not happy.

The report in Record says Ronaldo has told those close to him "it's not about money" and "the problem is not the renewal". It's more a question of treatment, of his role at a club he's given everything for. The fact Madrid are thinking about signing more big name players annoys him.

THE MESSAGE

Ricardo Regufe has posted a message of support for Ronaldo on social media in line with the comment the forward could have made to his friends and family.

"He's doesn't move because of money or contract renewals," wrote Regufe, the marketing manager for Nike in Portugal.

"They say that football has no memory but those of us that accompany you closely everyday and the millions of fans you have in all corners of the world, we have a memory. Because we know the hours of work you put in, the dedication and the sacrifice you make for your profession. We won't forget how lucky we are to be able to enjoy everything that you do and all of the joy you have given us.

"We know that you are not moved by money or by contract renewals, it's your passion for football, the joy you give so many people on and off the pitch. What moves you are the trophies you win with your teams and that you always share with all your teammates. You have ambition, you don't rest on past glory. You say what you think and you you show courage. I know you will always be the same. Proud to be your friend."
