The reasons why Benzema doesn't want to renew Real Madrid contract

After Karim Benzema sent a message to Real Madrid that he doesn't have any intention of renewing his contract, which expires in June 2022, the club's supporters are asking why he doesn't want to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

By the time his deal expires, the France striker will be 34 and will have completed 13 seasons at Madrid.

Benzema longs for Lyon, the team that developed him and where he made his debut as a professional before the call came from Florentino Perez.

Returning to his origins has always been in his head, so it wouldn't be a surprise that his agent and friend Karim Djaziri has supposedly the forward wants to play at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais again, now called the Groupama Stadium for sponsorship reasons, even though he made his debut in the old Stade Gerland.

It must be kept in mind that Benzema was born in Lyon and wants to return home before hanging up his boots. His decision is sentimental and sporting, he's a Lyon fan in Madrid and never misses their games if he can help it. And, above all, he wants to play for them again while he's still in shape to be an important player.

Benzema's dream is to captain Lyon and to be the reference for the youngsters coming through. And Lyon would be delighted to welcome back the prodigal son. The French team's coach, Rudi Garcia, said he's "an ex-Lyon player that starts for one of the best teams in the world, so it would be fantastic to see him in a Lyon shirt again."
