The Real Madrid defender spoke about Barça's interest in him

Antonio Rudiger has confirmed Barcelona tried to sign him but that he was committed to joining their rivals Real Madrid.

Rudiger joined Madrid on a free transfer in the summer after running down his contract with Chelsea.

Barça were also in the market for centre-backs in the summer and met with the German's agents.

However, they ended up signing his Chelsea teammate Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

"Obviously there were more teams, but I only considered two, Chelsea and Real Madrid," Rudiger told Diario AS.

"They [Barca] knocked on my door, they did. But for me, it wasn't a possibility.

"As I told you before, Madrid for me wasn't even a dream because it seemed like something unattainable.

"If you look at the names that have played here: [Zinedine] Zidane, Ronaldo [Nazario], Cristiano [Ronaldo].

"To have the chance to play with [Luka] Modric, [Toni] Kroos or [Karim] Benzema... It was hard to say no."
