Real Madrid refused to issue a joint statement on the 'Negreira case'

Los Blancos did not want to be involved in a communiqué on the refereeing case

Miguel Ángel Gil, the CEO of Atlético de Madrid, tried to lead on Monday, from the offices of LaLiga, a joint communiqué from all the top flight teams in Spain asking for clarification of the 'Negreira case'.

As reported by 'Relevo', the note did not end up coming to light because there was no absolute unanimity beyond the request from Mateu Alemany, on behalf of FC Barcelona, for some time to know the details of the internal investigation initiated by the Catalan club

Real Madrid, according to the aforementioned media, sided with Barça. José Manuel Maza, a member of the club's legal services, initially refused to sign a statement that he had not seen.

When Javier Tebas proposed that Madrid should be in charge of drawing up the initial draft, Maza passed the proposal on to the Merengues' sporting leadership and the response could not have been more forceful. "Real Madrid is not going to draft any joint statement," he said after calling his superiors.

The club presided by Florentino Pérez, therefore, prevented all the participants of La Liga from making a joint statement against the 'Negreira case'.

Some teams like Sevilla or Espanyol, however, decided to express their opinion on their own. The Andalusians expressed their "concern and indignation at the information that has become known in the last few hours," while Espanyol were "alarmed at the information published in different media on the matter."
