Florentino Pérez and Zidane want to overhaul the squad at the end of the season

Less than a year after investing heavily in Eder Militao, Rodrygo, Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard and Alphonse Areola, Florentino Pérez and Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid president and coach, respectively, are planning another squad overhaul.

Results this season have not lived up to expectations and the club have a long list of players they no longer count on. Pending what happens with the coronavirus crisis and football, up to 11 players could leave the club.

The list of damned players is headed by Gareth Bale. The season keep on passing and the winger, now 30, has not lived up to the 101 million invested in him. Injuries have been a major problem.

But the Welshman's not the only player on the exit ramp. James Rodriguez and Mariano Diaz are in the same position. It's unlikely others, like Brahim Diaz and Álvaro Odriozola will continue, either. Odriozola is on loan at Bayern Munich and the possible return of Achraf Hakimi will make his permanent departure inevitable.

As for Brahim, he has made just seven appearances this season and will have to find football elsewhere.

RECENT SIGNINGS

Three recent signings in Jovic, Militao and Areola could also be changing scenery. The first two have failed to make their mark and Zidane is unlikely to back them staying at the club. The Serbian striker's been the season's big disappointment. He has two goals in 24 games after joining for 60 million euros.

Things haven't gone much better for Brazil defender Militao. He has made 13 appearances and has featured in a lot of Madrid's losses. Madrid would consider a loan or a sale.

Areola could return to PSG after completing his loan spell at the Bernabeu.

SPECIAL CASES

The special cases involve Luka Modric, Marcelo and Lucas Vázquez. The emergence of Fede Valverde has left Modric's position up for the debate. That, plus the fact he's nearly 35 and in the final year of his contract, could see him leave.

Marcelo, who will turn 32 next month, has been overtaken by Ferland Mendy and Madrid don't rule out letting the Brazilian leave -- if that is what he wants.

Finally, Lucas Vazquez could also leave. He has one year left on his deal and is nearly 29.
