Zinedine Zidane has Real Madrid back at their best

Real Madrid are a fearsome team again. After an abysmal year, they are back and have gone 14 games without defeat. Last night they obliterated Valencia 3-1 in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, dominating the ball.

Madrid have gone 82 days without tasting a loss. They tumbled at Mallorca and since then have recorded nine wins and five draws.

Before this run started they let in 14 goals in 12 games. The defence was leaky and Thibaut Courtois didn't convince. Now they have let in seven in 14, significantly better. They have kept seven clean sheets and scored 35 goals.

Madrid thrashed Eibar (0-4), Getafe (0-3) and Valencia (1-3). However in the tougher games they have drawn - PSG (2-2), Valencia (1-1), Barcelona (1-1). They also slipped up with draws against Betis and Athletic Bilbao. So they still have some areas to improve.
