The Belgian may have an operation or opt for conservative treatment

Real Madrid will be without Eden Hazard for a while, that's for sure. He went off against Levante having suffered a new ankle microfracture, having just returned from one.

The dilemma is whether he should go under the knife or opt for conservative treatment. The same debate they had back in November when it happened. They opted for the second and he missed nearly three months.

The recovery time is similar for both. But in the second case there is the possibility it will be shorter - two months, for example - and he may be able to play at the end of the season or for Belgium in Euro 2020.

The problem is that having an injury in the same place as before is bad news. In 2017 he fractured that ankle in training with Belgium and it was operated on, putting a small piece of titanium in that zone to give stability to the bones and help cure the fracture.

If Hazard has another operation it would keep him out for three months, spoiling this season and potentially denying him Euro 2020. It might set him up better for next season though.
