Real Madrid defender Pepe looks set to move to China in summer

Madrid won't give the Portuguese a two-year deal and he would double his salary in China

Portugal defender Pepe is beginning to think his future is no longer at Real Madrid. He is out of contract in June and, until now, has not convinced the club to give him a new two-year deal, as he’s hoping for. Therefore, he’s considering accepting one of the two offers he has from China.

According to Marca, one of those offers Pepe has is from Hebei Fortune, who are managed by his former boss at Madrid Manuel Pellegrini. The Chinese club are ready to double his salary, while Madrid will not improve the 4.5 million euros he is currently paid in the Spanish capital. Chelsea are also reportedly interested.

With the centre-back about to turn 34 and celebrate 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club don’t appear to be ready to make an enormous effort to keep hold of him. Instead, they’re happy with the Sergio Ramos-Raphael Varane partnership.

Pepe wants two more years, but the club’s terms are one year and an optional second year dependent on his performances. Talks have stopped and it looks likely he will leave in the summer.
