Real Madrid confirm Sergio Ramos has undergone operation on knee
The club captain is set to spend the next six weeks recovering
Real Madrid have confirmed that club captain Sergio Ramos underwent a knee injury on Saturday as earlier reported by COPE.
Ramos has played just twice in 2021 and is now set for a further six-week spell on the sidelines, although Madrid didn't confirm how long he will be out for.
"Our captain, Sergio Ramos, successfully underwent an operation today for the injury to the internal meniscus of his left knee," a club statement read.
"The operation was performed by Dr Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical department. Ramos will begin his recovery in the coming days."
The expectation had been that Ramos would return in time for the Champions League last 16 tie against Atalanta so the new is a setback for the player and Madrid.
Ramos took the decision to undergo surgery in the hope that his teammates will get through that tie and he will be available for the latter stages of the competition.
